My mother was beautiful

MomPainting

I painted this portrait of my mother in 1993. It’s guache and prismacolor on paper. Mom was 24 at the time the [reference] photo was taken. She never realized how beautiful she was. This painting is special because my father helped pick out the frame. It hung in their home for years. My folks are both gone. The portrait is now hanging in my home.

Intaglio is beautiful too

I took my first intaglio class this semester.  Fell in love with it. According to good old Wikipedia, it’s a “technique in which the image is incised into a surface, and the incised line or sunken area holds the ink. Normally, copper or zinc plates are used as a surface or matrix, and the incisions are created by etchingengravingdrypointaquatint or mezzotintCollagraphs may also be printed as intaglio plates.”

Behold, the only representational plate I etched this semester. I need to re-scan it. My scanner bed wasn’t large enough so the edges are a little blurred. I like creating figures with long cast shadows.

I’m only doing an edition of four. The first is for a photographer/dancer friend. One of my classmates wants to do a trade. It’s all good.
